I'm not a dim sum expert, but I came with friends who kind of are, so let me simply list the six tastiest things I ate at this cavernous, gaudily decorated, palace of Houston-Chinese excess. I suppose it is obvious that these are not the actual names of these dishes:1. Shrimp Noodles: Cannelloni shaped rice noodles stuffed with plump shrimp, doused in a sharp soy based sauce. Just fantastic. Make sure they cut them up for you, as they are otherwise impossible to ferry to mouth. Cover with the chili oil for the full effect.2. Tofu - Ginger Soup: 4 spoons of quivering, fresh, tofu delicately ladelled into a bowl and served in a fragrant ginger broth. Tastes almost exactly, but not quite, like oatmeal with maple syrup.3. Steamed pork bun - A marshmallow colored steamed bun stuffed with slow roasted spicy pork.4. Baked pork bun - The same pork, this time stuffed in a baked bun and glazed with something sweet. This is tasty, but the steamed bun is better.5. Gelatinous rice: gelatinous rice wrapped around little bombs of crisy, fatty, roast pork, all wrapped in a lotus leaf. Outrageous. More chili oil recommended.6. Fried sesame balls: The best I can do with these is to call them sesame donuts stuffed with tahini paste. That's not quite right, as they aren't sweet, but well, do your best to imagine them.Also, Fung's Kitchen's dim sum is almost laughably cheap (to this current New Yorker). We ate and ate, and got a bill for $50 for 4 people.

Good steamed dumplings which are my favorite. Clams at the bar area tasty too. Service is quick if not that friendly. For a big group, with young kids, the circle tables and (casual) atmosphere work out well.

This is my go-to dim sum spot since we live just down the street. It's spacious and relatively clean, so it's a good place to bring my two kiddos who are 1 and almost 3. Their high chairs are in good condition and are usually kept clean (I loathe dirty high chairs!).I always order a dish of their pickled vegetables to eat with the dim sum. It's not on the dim sum menu, but I like the taste and how it helps cuts through the dim sum grease, if you know what I mean.Pretty much every dish is average to above average, so you really can't go wrong with whatever you decide to try. I am just always a fan of their sweet tofu pudding and their steamed egg custard buns...yum-o!The staff is very nice and accommodating, and they always compliment and interact with my kids. I'm glad we live so close to one of the best dim sum restaurants in town.

I LOVE FUNG'S KITCHEN! Okay, now that I've gotten that out of my system, I'll tell you why. This place has great Dim Sum... the best quality in Houston. Everything they serve here is made in house... not the frozen stuff most places offer.I've been here for a few parties that were catered (think Asian wedding style service.) I haven't had anything here that wasn't absolutely delicious. They have a wonderful variety of seafood including king crab, abalone, dungeness crab & lobster. They also have a great beef tongue dish that's stir fried with mushrooms and veggies. I will return to this place as soon as I can!

I really liked this place -- minus the service. Otherwise, I'd give it 5 stars. We ordered Chinese Broccoli from our Server because we didn't see it on any of the carts. We were almost done with our meal and they still hadn't brought out the vegetables so we cancelled the order. Our waitress was annoyed and said they were almost done cooking the broccoli and will bring it out shortly. Told her again that we didn't want it and they still brought it out. We made them take it back. She stopped serving us afterwards and asked another server to take over our table. RUDE!Besides that one bad experience, it's probably the best dim sum I've ever had. The food was fresh and delicious! Even the Egg Tarts were fresh out of the oven.The restaurant is big and clean and the hosts wear cute Chinese outfits.

You know what? We liked this place. Valet parking only, as far as we could tell. The dim sum was on par with what I've had elsewhere (San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City). It was easy to get a big table. I'd recommend it. If you are experienced eating dim sum, do your inexperienced friends a favor and bring them here. You can introduce them to the wonders of Chinese food and grease. It'll change their lives.

My boyfriend and I visited Houston for the weekend. I really wanted to try a known authentic Chinese restaurant. I was impressed with Fung's website and dinner menu. We went on a Saturday night early. Pretty nice place. The menu is so long, however, it can be overwhelming. I liked my dish, sliced ginger chicken and pineapple. But I did not like my boyfriend's dish, chicken and fried noodles. I asked our waitress if she could make my dish a little spicy. She said no, that they couldn't adjust any dish. I was satisfied with mine, but probably should have opted for something a little more traditionally western like sweet and sour chicken. The egg drop soup was great. It got very busy fast, and no one came to refill our drinks for some time. The menu is impressive, but you'll need some help with it.

I came on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed here. The restaurant is really big which is great for dim sum so the carts have room to maneuver around tables. The parking lot is disproportionately small though, so have fun finding parking when it's busy.As for the food, it was just okay. I'm pretty picky about my dim sum though (and Asian cuisine in general). Some dishes that we always get are steamed pork ribs with black bean sauce, chicken feet, pan friend turnip cake, and steamed rice roll with shrimp or bbq pork. Everything was just okay. Nothing to write home about.Overall, it wasn't bad but it didn't make a huge impression on me either. I might come here again, but only if the group I'm coming with suggests it.

Dum sum? Dam sum? Dim Sum? Whatever you call it doesn't matter! This place is the best! It's easy to tell by the non-stop crowds on any day offering the Dim Sum cart service. You can still order the same dishes when the cart service is not available, but take my advice and only go when the carts are rollin. Shumai, shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, the list goes on and on and they have it all. I do wish I spoke Mandarin or at least knew how to say the dishes so it'd be a little easier to order. Most of the carters don't speak English too well. Don't let that stop you... you can take a peek into any of the metal cases they are peddling.Pretty sure I could go here every weekend and not get tired of it. It's just that good.Only thing that might T you off is the valet service. They reserve half the lot to make you tip. I really don't know what's up with Houston and valet these days. That's another story for another day though.

The place was ok. Really packed and an especially small parking lot considering the size of the restaurant. I guess that's how they get you to valet.We ordered the peking duck. It was good but a bit pricey.Fried squid was soggy as hell and had absolutely no seasoning on it.Rest of the food was nothing spectacular. Honestly, all except two dishes were just run of the mill dim sum that you get any where. Not bad but nothing special. HOwever, for the price that you are paying, I don't see myself coming back here.

Dim Sum isn't for me and they are all the same in big cities which is basically a stale tasting buffet on wheels but with Chinese food. You have to be sitting right by the kitchen door in order to receive food freshly cooked, otherwise you can expect stale or soggy stuff when they wheel the food cart to you. We sat in the far back of the restaurant so our food was not that great.

Went for dinner with my family and ordered the peking duck as well as the family seafood dinner for 6. Although I admit I don't know how much it cost, I was very satisfied with the dishes it included.The peking duck was also quite good. We ordered it with the pancakes as an appetizer before our family feast arrived. I agree with other reviewers that the green onions lack flavor, but the duck was quite good.The seafood dinner included crab soup, a squid dish, a mussel dish, a fish dish, a tofu special and dessert. It was a very good meal.BTW The only reason I can't give Fung's 5 stars, is because it was my first visit. I only give 5 stars after at least three trips.I didn't notice any of the parking issues mentioned but perhaps it was because it was already late.

This is my go-to place for dim sum in Houston. I try to get here early b/c if you don't, good luck on finding parking. The shopping center used to be the BMW Momentum dealership until they moved down the street back in the 90's. So one spot I usually try to park is on this ramp that's usually reserved for whatever 7-series or M-car that BMW tried to sell. Ironically I have a BMW now so I find it fitting to park there. If not, sometimes I'll just create my own parking spot if the lot is completely full.Anyway, I come here to eat, not park/valet cars. Food is mostly consistent. They used to serve the shrimp noodle (banh cuon tom) with bok choy which was a nice touch, but no more bok choy :(. The dumplings here reign supreme and that's the measuring stick I compare to at other dumpling houses. The squid salad is really good, but inconsistent. Broccoli (cai lan) is the gold standard here. The tofu dessert here is very rich and sweet. I just discovered their congee here today (I normally hate the stuff...but it's very good here and will add to my regular rotation). The clams here are disappointing. The bird's nest dumpling is disappointing as well. The tripe is ok, but I prefer extra ginger and onion which is not offered here (I usually sneak a little ginger from the squid salad to add to the tripe which perfects it). But these are minor qualms as the dumplings and dessert here shine!I would rate it 4.49 stars. BTW, if you like Yan Can Cook, you'll love watching him and Chef Fung go at it on the TV screens over and over and over and over and over again. Visit was today 12/30/12.

On a recent visit to Houston for my anniversary, I wandered into Yelp to find good Chinese food. Coming from DFW, I was longing for good, authentic Chinese food. I chose Fung's Kitchen mainly because of the quantity of reviews and the ability to hold a three and a half star rating. Houston, you are spoiled. A restaurant of this quality in the DFW area would definitely hold a higher score. But that is what makes Houston so great: the Chinese & Latin food scene and the fact you can nitpick.This was the fifth restaurant I went to in my one day visit (couldn't stay longer) so I could only order the Peking Duck: one whole duck sliced thinly with homemade plum sauce and homemade bao buns. Didn't care much for the flavorless and dry green onions, but outside of that, the duck was delicious. Juicy meat, crispy skin. Bao buns were HUGE and tasty.Atmosphere was amazing and the tank with the $50/lb King Crab, $38/lb Spiny Lobsters and the small sharks was great. Almost as good as the aquarium at the Houston Zoo! J/K The service was very good which is where most Asian restaurants lack. I'm glad they didn't turn me away for wearing street clothes. Will be back the next time I'm in Houston but I might pre-order the Special Duck dish.

Their beef chow fun was perfectly smothered in sauce. The tender greens were cooked perfectly with a slight crisp to them and the green onions were proportioned well. If I ever have a craving for beef chow fun, I wouldn't hesitate to go here. Chicken fried rice was pretty good as well.

It's not perfect, but still the best dim sum place in H town. Behind the Ducati dealership on 59. Free parking.Plus1. dumplings (shrimp siu mai!), congee, tofu dessert, freshly fried sesame balls with red bean filling2. clean restroomsAreas of improvement1. service could be better - one server per 5-10 tables2. add more variety to the hot dim sum menu$130 for 7 people with tip for brunch.

I have no problem giving a high remark for Dim Sum and their regular menu for the Chinese. This is a well balanced authentic Chinese food in Houston. The atmosphere is good. Servers are friendly.The menu is so extensive that you may not know what to order. Then, ask the staff. They will try to help you. They have live seafood tank, so they will cook to your specification.Many Asian banquets, not just Chinese but some Japanese are held here. But the atmosphere is not stuffy at all. Kids friendly.At the end for large family or business get together with good chinese food, this is the best in Houston. If you are looking for typical American Chinese food, this is not the place that you should visit.

Normally the food is great here, but we must've went on an off night.I wanted to get the fried oysters, but they were all out. The owner/manager kept pushing the lobster special @ $18.50, but all the "special" lobsters looked to be under a pound so we skipped it.The fish maw and crab soup was heavy on the egg and skimpy on the fish and crab. The beef dish (I don't remember which one) was bland and disappointing, and the shrimp were rubbery and overcooked. Even the service was slow (and it was a Wednesday).All in all, I guess I'll stick to this place for a weekend dinner. The weekdays seem to be a crapshoot.

I have only been to Fungs for Sunday Dim sum. I always arrive early..1015 ish.When 1145 rolls around , if you can get a seat , its your lucky day. Service always starts at a crawl. Get some tea , and watch. Slowly the place turns into a zoo. Maybe not the experience everyone wants for brunch, but I enjoy it , and the place is busy. Exotic dishes await at the bar. Can't wait to try a dinner service. Enjoy !

I have no qualms about recommending first timers or out-of-towners to this place for dim sum. Period.Atmosphere is clean, as there is a real elegance from the cherry wood chairs, carpet, decorations, etc. Your white friends won't be scared by a "hole in the wall" place. Plenty of tables, so usually the wait is because they now don't open the whole restaurant, leaving the back just for banquets.Order whatever you want. It's good. It's also a little pricier than some other dim sum places, but it's worth it!In the lobby, you can see various awards and photo ops Chef Fung has been honored with, so this ain't no rinky dink operation.Dinner service is also excellent here, as I've gone with a co-worker (expense account hello!) and he enjoyed the meal thoroughly! He's Colombian, so even a first timer to authentic Chinese food liked it (along with my excellent dish selection).Just as a tip, parking really blows. So valet it or come early before noon.

If you need dim sum and want a chance from Kim Son, try it. I experienced great dim sum on trips in and from NYC in Flushing. This brought the feeling back, down to the tea.Had the standard dumpling spread, sticky rice, broccoli, spinach.Food: 4/5 Service :3.5/5 (kinda catered to those speaking the local lingo). Parking:...sucks, just valet.

Sigh, yet another dissapointing dim sum experience...This place is absolutely huge, but man, limited dim sum selection, and even then, not that great. My usual complaint about metal steamers definitely applies here, as the har gow, and sui mai both stick to the parchment paper on the bottom, and you lose out on some of that deliciousness when the bottom layer peels off. The chicken feet was ok (best item I had all day there), and the rest of the standbys just ok. Service is decent, but after seeing the same carts roll around twice in five minutes, I think that is enough of that.On the plus side, ambiance is great, high ceilings, very traditional dim sum house style, and they have chinese mustard. The chili sauce leaves a bit to be desired though. I still say Arco Seafood is better than most of the other places, so give that place a shot for something of a little higher quality.

This is a review based for their dim sum only. I have not tried their regular dishes.I went there on Sunday during lunch hour. And boy, this place is incredibly huge and packed with people! Luckily they had so many tables so we didn't have to wait at all, which is always appreciated when your stomach is protesting.They served the dishes by carts and you will need to wait for food until the carts came to you. This is very traditional but since the place is so big, we had a hard time having the carts come near us. Or even when they did, some popular items were already gone. They told us we could order from the waiters but they did not have a paper menu we could look to see what they had. That's a bomber.The food is just so so. It's not bad but definitely not amazing. And ouch, when we got our check, my jaw dropped!! I swear I had never, ever paid THIS MUCH for dim sum in my life. It will take me to win some crazy lottery money before I will go back there for dim sum again!! Ouch!!

I always heard really good things about Fung's Kitchen dim sum, so I decided to give it a try this weekend. We went on Sunday around 11AM right before the lunch rush. My thoughts? I think I have been spoiled by dim sum in California. I wanted to really love Fung's Kitchen because everyone says how amazing it is and my boyfriend's cousin says he takes his family there EVERY weekend, but no dish seemed to pop out at me that made it seem any better than any other dim sum place I've been to...either in Houston or in SoCal.The Xiu mai was good..they had shrimp and pork options. I liked the pork one more. I also had banh cuon with shrimp which is normally my favorite and it was decent. I think I figured out what it is. The shrimp did not seem as fresh as what I'm used to. The texture of it was "pastey" like it was from a frozen bag and defrosted before cooked. I feel awful for leaving this review because by all means the food was not bad or terrible at all! It was just not outstanding as to what I am used to and from hearing about how great it is.The service was excellent and quick. Normally I would feel ignored at Asian restaurants, but at Fung's Kitchen we had our water and tea refilled frequently and everyone was very nice and happy looking.Parking is a hot mess if you come during busy hours. They have complimentary valet if you prefer not to drive around the parking lot.

Oddly enough did not have chicken congeeOnly thousand year egg and porkCongee is one of my comfort foods, and Bless my mother's heart She nor I can make the stuff. (definitely not our forte)We came here right after my car incident in May 2011, and I was pretty shaken up.All I wanted was some chicken congee.I was rattled- but I remember not feeling uncomfortable there.It was a peaceful afternoon (so if you desire a not so hustle and bustle stop)Also, if you have never been- there is more than enough room in the parking lot to not fight for a spot.Now-- on the weekends, I don't know. Don't quote me on that. Dim sum on the weekends is guaranteed to draw a crowd, especially on a Sunday so keep that in mind.The sign is huge enough to spot from the freeway/feeder and for holidays sometimes Martin Yan hosts special events with them at the restaurant!

I'm in heaven! This place is a dream come true and I desperately hope that one day Tyler opens up a dim sum restaurant like Fung's Kitchen. So here's the low down:-the restaurant itself is HUGE so only had to wait about 20 minutes, about 150people here.(Sunday)-service was good and drinks came fast.-carts came by our table left and right and we never had to hunt anything down.-food was fabulous!!!!!-LOTS of variety.Decent go-to place to get your dim-sum fix. GET HERE EARLY!, Gets packed on Sundays after 11am.Service/staff is good.What more can you ask for? I love this place!!!

Fung's kitchen is a solid but overall unimpressive dim sum option. If you've been to dim sum before, you know the drill: talk to the cart pushers to order their wares and let them mark your bill with your order. Eat your fill of a bunch of different small plates before waddling up to the counter to sheepishly pay for the 50 items you consumed. Or maybe the last sentence really only applies to me.Standouts include the deep fried crab claw thing, the spinach dish with oyster sauce, shrimp in these little pillowy things, and the wide assortment of dumplings. If you crave chicken feet, you can get those too. I have to admit that I've NEVER craved them, but if I do, well, I know where to find them.Stay away from the desserts unless you find that a piece of fruit or bland bite is the perfect way to end a meal.The bottom line: Fung's offers an extensive menu, their dim sum prices aren't bad--and not award winning, either--and the carts tend to make their way around the restaurant quickly. Just keep an eye out for unpopular fare to avoid getting an ice cold surprise, and you'll enjoy your visit.

I am giving Fung's 1-star because they have SHARK'S FIN SOUP on the menu. Shark populations are declining sharply worldwide because Asian restaurants are serving this dish. Fishermen or poachers catch the shark, cut off its fin, and then throw the live shark back into the water to drown. Google it. It's effed up. If you put this dish on your menu, you're an asshole.My food otherwise was pretty decent, but seeing that shark's fin dish on the menu ruined the experience. I will NOT be back.

I've been to Fung's several times including dinner and dim sum, and I'm just not that impressed. I've eaten all over Chinatown as well as Americanized Chinese food. I definitely prefer the more traditional stuff, but Fung's feels like a step below most of the other Chinese restaurants. Dinner is definitely better than dim sum. Their large tables are perfect for family style dining. I enjoyed several of the dishes we had and was able to try several things. The dinner was a 3 star meal.Dim sum is a different story. I will not be back for dim sum. The place is huge and some tables get better service than others. We ended up in a corner where very few carts would go by. Communication was a problem, but we were willing to just take some items and try them. We weren't impressed with the selection. We asked several people for drinks and other items, they said ok and not a single one ever returned. The bbq pork buns were not as flavorful as other places in town. I'd give dim sum 2 stars.I'd maybe go back for dinner but definitely not for dim sum. A weak 3 stars from me.Parking is tough even though the lot looks large.

It's not my favorite place to go eat dimsum but its not bad neither.I've been here 4-5 times already. I like the fact that there's never a long wait. I like the fact that it's complimentary parking and that there's food carts that goes around all the time everywhere. I like their sticky rice but that's probably about it. Their chicken feet is just (gross) and something that I would never order ever again when I come to eat here. If I could choose another place to go eat dimsum, I would go to bellaire for some good authentic ones! Their food is pretty oily and their service is quite slow.

Big location with a private lot, so getting a table and parking are no problem. The food is good. Like many Asian restaurants, service could use some work. Nothing memorable, nothing bad. Price is onpar with other dim sum places. We always order things like xiu mai, shrimp dumplings in clear casing, steamed pork buns, chinese brocoli, chicken feet (which I don't eat), noodles (which you take your stamped bill to a station in the back for), fried taro balls, taro rice bars, crab leg balls, and egg custard for dessert.I've also been here for a wedding and the food was good.Beware though- I had a friend come here without knowing and he thought the carts going around were samples before he ordered. Needless to say he got the surprise with his bill when he found out those werent for free!

Astoundingly overrated. Bleh.I don't know if they accidentally served yesterday's Dim Sum or something, but I honestly could not identify a single item on the table that I actually wanted to eat, not even the fried rice we added on the order. If you got served Dim Sum in a hospital, it would probably be better than this. Every item was consistently too oily or dry, too salty or bland, and even the dessert items, well, sucked. As there's plenty of competition around the area -- Arco Seafood, Kim Son, Jade Garden in Sugar Land, etc -- they can't even justify a monopoly, except on bad food. Fried rice tasted like frozen microwave stuff (actually, I think the frozen microwave stuff tastes better).Their chili sauce isn't horrible though.

We had a great time for dim sum lunch at Fung's Kitchen. Vincent, the manager, was excellent. The dim sum is always great, and the wait staff makes you feel special. Great job!

Highly recommended Chinese seafood restaurant with over 400 items on their menu!! Beautiful decor, very spacious and friendly staff. Also try dim sum which has over 100 items on the menu!
